Hello Fellow Explorers
I’m a single woman in the second half of life. I’ve always loved to travel and over the years, I’ve learned a lot. Learned how to keep a positive attitude when things go wrong, and they will go wrong. I learned how to travel with different kinds of people and how to go solo. I’ve learned how to plan, how to pack, how to play the “points” game, and how to live in the moment.

This blog is my passion project, a chance to look through old travel journals and memory cards full of photos and share what I’ve learned and hopefully inspire others to explore this beautiful world. Whether you travel for relaxation, adventure, or curiosity I hope you will find something in these posts that you can take with you on your own journey.
My Story
I’ve spent my entire adult life working in corporate America and I suppose most people would say that I was successful. I was more fortunate than most in that I really loved my job and got along well with the people I worked with. Unfortunately my industry started to change, then COVID happened and like thousands of others I found myself jobless. I discovered how difficult it is to find work when your over 50, turns out ageism really is a thing.

If you’ve ever gone through multiple lay-offs in a short period of time, you know what it feels like, my story is far from unique. I did what many do when they find that overnight their comfortable world has been turned upside down. I changed everything. I downsized my life, cut my expenses to the bare minimum, and decided that I was done with the corporate game. I started doing freelance work and I started writing and thinking about taking a chance and following my dream.

Dream following is generally reserved for the young. Those with nothing to lose and plenty of time to change course if things don’t work out. By the time you hit 50, most of us are far more practical. This is the time to plan for retirement, make wise financial decisions, keep your head down in the cubical and ride it out until 65.

Whatever.

I played by the rules for thirty years and it turned out not to matter, so why not just do what I’m passionate about and let the chips fall where they may. I’ve wanted to be a travel writer for as long as I can remember, but it always seemed so unattainable. There are so many amazing writers out there, why would someone want to read my little anecdotes? What could I possibly have to say that hasn’t been said already and by someone who can say it better? I suppose I'll find out and I invite you to join me on the journey.
